Stargate SG-1, 382 words
Vala pulled on her sucker thoughtfully as she gazed at the television, watching a group of costumed children knock on yet another door. "So this is a real holiday?" she asked. "Not just an invention of the writers? People really go around, knocking on their neighbours doors and asking for candy?"
"Children go around knocking on doors," Sam corrected. "Adults generally only go if they're escorting small children, and they usually don't get any candy."
"Well, that's disappointing."
"Halloween is really more about the kids," Sam said. "But adults sometimes dress up and go to parties. And, of course, buy candy the day after Halloween when it goes on sale."
"That's something, I suppose," Vala said. "So who's holding the party this year?" She paused, studying Sam's expression. "Don't tell me we don't have a team Halloween party."
"Why is it that you people can't be bothered to celebrate your own holidays? Do we at least get to shell out candy here?"
"We don't get too many kids at a top secret military base," Sam said.
"Then clearly someone needs to hold a party. Who do you think would do the best job? Mitchell? He's good at that sort of thing."
"He's already having us over for Thanksgiving," Sam pointed out. "And possibly Christmas, if we can't get leave."
"Alright. How about Daniel? Or General Landry?"
Sam's lips quirked toward a smile. "I'm not sure you'll get General Landry to host a Halloween party. And if you ask Daniel..."
"I know, I know...I'll get a whole lecture on the history and cultural significance of the holiday."
"And then he still won't hold a party."
"But I have the keys to Daniel's apartment."
Sam's eyes widened a little. "He gave you keys?"
"Well, gave is a flexible word, don't you think? Anyway, I've seen his apartment, and he has almost no furniture, which means there's plenty of room for a party."
"I think I should talk to Teal'c. I'll need someone tall to help me decorate. And I need to go online to find a costume."
Vala smiled widely at her. "Make sure you find a costume too, Sam. And think sexy! It's Halloween, after all. Time to try out something a little different. Plus we both know Mitchell will appreciate the effort."
Vala was already on her feet. "I'll see you later, darling. I have a party to plan!"

"I think I preferred last year's Halloween celebration," Vala said, gazing up at the single, steel-barred window.
Cam was gazing up as well. "Didn't we all."
"You're only saying that because it wasn't your apartment she commandeered for her party," Daniel said sourly.
"Come on, Jackson. I helped you clean up, didn't I? And you gotta admit, the woman knows how to throw a party."
"Thank you, Mitchell. It's good to know someone appreciates my efforts."
"At throwing parties, yes. At offending our hosts by attempting to steal the local treasure, not so much."
"You're only saying that because you were hoping to be back at the SGC in time to find out what Sam's costume was this year."
Sam twisted around from where she was testing the sturdiness of the door frame. "What makes you think I have a costume?"
"Darling," Vala purred, "I checked your browser history." She cast a sideways glance at Cam. "You're right to be unhappy, Mitchell. You're missing out on a treat."
A light flush crept across Sam's cheeks. She turned back abruptly toward the door. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
Vala ignored her. "So do you two have private plans? Because I can't imagine Sam wearing that in public."
"Pointing out what I'm missing isn't really winning you any points right now," Cam observed. "Not when it's your fault we're in here."
"Well, then," Vala said, "it's a good thing I bribed the guard to come let us out as soon as it gets dark. We'll be back at the SGC by nightfall."
"Oh, I hope so," Cam said.
"Wait a minute," Daniel said, looking from Cam to Sam. "Did the two of you have plans?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Cam said
"But you just said--"
"No idea," Cam repeated firmly. He jerked his chin toward the window and gave Vala a pointed glance. "It's getting dark."
"And here comes the guard!" Vala said happily as the jingle of keys sounded down the corridor. She gave Cam a pat on the shoulder and lowered her voice conspiratorially. "I told you! We'll be back in plenty of time."
